This program is designed to encourage and
promote the development, advancement, and exchange of fair and
balanced information regarding the research, diagnosis and treatment
of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases with improved
patient care and wellness outcomes as the underlying theme.
The sessions will present and examine new
findings on physiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and
management of hypertension and related conditions.

Hypertension Highlights 2008
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 8:00 AM – 5:15 PM
Hypertension Highlights is a
full-day program dedicated to educating clinicians and scientists
about some of the most interesting, controversial evolving topics in
the field. The program includes state-of-the-art presentations on
various aspects of disease mechanisms, management of special
populations, and the future of hypertension practice guidelines. It
is an ideal update for Hypertension Specialists or those wishing to

Hypertension Community Outreach Project
The Hypertension Community
Outreach Project is comprised of six separate components which in
tandem serve to educate and positively impact the lifestyle factors and
overall health of approximately 3500 individuals. From child to senior
citizen, the Project will reach and teach those in the neighborhoods of
New Orleans that are in most need, utilizing a culturally relevant
approach and the expertise and contributions of local professionals,
government officials, and organizations.
Special
Events Include:

All Day Hypertension
Health Festival at the French market in Jackson Square on May 10, 2008. Hypertension screening,
written materials promoting a healthy lifestyle, opportunities to meet hypertension experts and referrals
to PATH clinics will be provided to attendees by volunteers guided by
ASH members.

Evening Community
Hypertension Health Forum at the ASHE Cultural Arts Center
on May 13, 2008. This interactive forum will facilitate discussion of
problems related to hypertension and its sequelae between members of
the community, both lay and medical, and hypertension experts from ASH.

Hypertension Glucose and
Cholesterol Screening on the morning of May 17, 2008 at the Martin Luther King
Charter Elementary
School in the 9th Ward.

Hypertension for the Primary Care Clinician
Friday, May 16 and Saturday,
May 17, 2008, 7:50 AM – 5:00 PM
The American Society of
Hypertension is introducing a new educational program for family
physicians and other primary care clinicians: “Hypertension for the
Primary Care Clinician.” This is the only course of its type, and
promises to be the ‘go-to’ place for clinicians who want to attain a
mastery level knowledge of hypertension.
The course has been designed by
Primary Care Clinicians for Primary Care Clinicians, and will present
content both on hypertension fundamentals and evolving issues. Courses
will be taught by Primary Care Clinicians in conjunction with
Hypertension Specialists. Recognizing the commonplace questions that
face clinicians in day-to-day care of hypertension, each lecture format
will include a frequently asked question "FAQ"
